Obituary for Daniel M. Coulon

Daniel Maurice Coulon, 72, passed away January 26th in Waco, TX at Providence Hospice following a series of serious illnesses. A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, February 13 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.

Some men choose to cut their own path through the forest of life’s uncertainties; the track they forge, directed by their character, is proven with each new milestone they reach. Daniel Coulon’s road has come to an end, but retracing the path he left behind reveals the values that drove his spirit through the journey of life. He earnestly sought to fulfill his duty to God, his family, his country, and his community.

Daniel was born on the 26th of March, 1948 in Hartford, Connecticut to parents Maurice Coulon and Mary Glode Coulon, shortly moving to Fullerton, California where he spent the remainder of his childhood and formative years. After graduating from Fullerton High School in 1966 he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving as a Staff Sergeant primarily at Clear Air Force Station in Alaska. After the service Daniel worked for decades as a sales manager for hospital supply companies American Hospital Supply, Baxter Healthcare and Surgicot.

He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Cheri Jean Fields in November of 1969. Together they moved from California to Dallas in 1973, then to their home in Waco in 1980. Along the way they proudly raised three sons, David, Michael, and Stephen, all three of whom became Eagle Scouts, Baylor Graduates, and went on to raise beautiful families of their own.

Daniel dedicated his free moments to serving his community, spending decades of perpetual service to First United Methodist Church in Waco, and Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Mesquite and Waco Texas, including a proud two-year stint as Scoutmaster for Waco’s Scout Troop 308. Many of his proudest accomplishments are linked to this work in helping the community of Waco’s boys grow up to become trustworthy men. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing guitar, and spending time with his family. After retirement he took up gourmet cooking and home gardening. He had great fun with his grandchildren becoming known as “Pépe” as is his French family's tradition.

Daniel was preceded in death by his brother Donald Coulon and sister Rita Coulon Lincavage. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-one years Cheri Fields Coulon; son David Coulon and wife Brianna; son Michael Coulon and wife Regan Thompson; son Stephen Coulon and wife Heather; grandchildren Clayton Coulon, Raina Woodard, Henry Coulon, and Frances Coulon; nieces and nephews Gretchen Lincavage, Teri Conn, Robert Lincavage, Dan Lincavage, and Kevin Bready, as well as many more extended family members and close friends.
