Cecelia Vasquez Garza

Cecelia Vasquez Garza, 89, of Waco passed away Monday, December 21, 2020. The family will receive visitors Sunday, December 27" between 2:00pm-5:00pm at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, followed by a Rosary at 6:30pm at St Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church, 315 Jefferson Ave. A Holy Mass will be celebrated Monday, December 28 at 10:00am at the Church followed by burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

Cecelia was born November 21, 1931 in Rosebud, Texas to Merced Ramirez Vasquez and Dolores Melendez.

Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents along with 9 brothers and sisters.

She Is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Jessie C Garza; daughters Yvonne Salazar and Veronica Garza; 5 grandchildren, Jeff Salazar, Jennifer Salazar, James Salazar, Steven Sisneros, Cookie Sisneros Brown and husband Bobby; and 4 great grandchildren DeAngelo, Cecilia, Randy and Labella; brothers Julian Vasquez and Mike Vasquez; sisters Yolanda Beltran, Mercy Wilkerson and husband Morris, and MaryLou Martinez and husband Gilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

As a young girl Cecelia worked for Buchanan’s Laundry. She went on to obtain her GED and worked within the Waco Independent School District. She became a CCE teacher with the church eventually working for St Francis Kindergarten and Nursery for 25 years. Cecelia was a member of the Cursillistas as well as the President of the Guadalupanas.

Cecelia was also a 21 year breast cancer survivor meeting and helping many people through the Reach to Recovery program. Together with her husband they travelled all over the United States and other locales such as Hawaii, Rome and Mallorca. All that knew Cecelia knew her passion for dancing, which she enjoyed with her husband. They could often be found dancing at the American Legion on Friday nights. Cecelia a strong woman of faith and kindness, left an impression on all those she met. Her giving and caring spirit will truly be missed by all those who knew her.
