Obituary for Beverly Ann Gilbert

On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Beverly Ann Gilbert, loving wife and mother passed away peacefully in Waco, Texas. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Lockhart City Cemetery at 11 o’clock A.M. Please note that social distancing will be observed.

Beverly was born on August 4, 1937 in Lockhart, Texas to Jesse Thomas (J.T.) and Joy Belle Blackwell. On October 5, 1957, she married Richard (Dick) Alfred Gilbert. Together they raised three children, Keith Thomas Gilbert, Sherry Lynn Huff, and Bryan Richard Gilbert, all whom she was so immensely proud.

Beverly grew up in Beaumont, Texas completing school there through junior high. The family then moved to Houston, Texas where she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1955. While in high school she enjoyed performing with the Scottish Brigade. During summers she would always visit her cousin Patsy in Lockhart and helped with the farm life chores. After high school, Beverly attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College. There she met her future husband while looking for a ping-pong partner at a church social. As a young married couple in the United States Air Force they were stationed at several military bases and made lifelong friends wherever they went. One of their favorite date nights was to go square dancing in their matching dress and shirt. What a fine-looking couple they were! Beverly and Dick also joined a couples bowling league and won numerous trophies together. As the times began to change, the opportunity for a career change opened for Richard and he started employment with United Airlines. This change led them to Chicago, IL, Seattle, WA and then New Braunfels, TX.

Beverly and Richard again made precious lifelong friendships. While in New Braunfels, Beverly joined a quilting bee and made wonderful friendships as well as beautiful quilts. Beverly loved being a homemaker and spending time with family and those who she held dear. Beverly’s tenderheartedness was well known as she would always cry happy tears during sentimental moments.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Joy Blackwell, brother Jay Blackwell, Father-in-law and mother-in-law Alfred and Gladys Gilbert.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard A. Gilbert, their three children, Keith (Susan) Gilbert, Sherry (Mike) Huff, and Bryan (Natalie) Gilbert, grandchildren Jillian (Randy) Hestand, Olivia (Josh) Deyo, Aidan Gilbert and Tatum Gilbert, and great-grandchildren Jesse Thomas (J.T.), Jacob and Chloe Deyo.

In lieu of floral arrangements, the family has requested donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Some goodbyes lead to beautiful hellos.
