An enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, as a teenager, Baker began his love of guns and the outdoors with his uncle, Charles Riess in the mountains of Colorado. He played and coached Little League Baseball and always looked forward to football season as an enthusiastic fan of the Baylor Bears and the Dallas Cowboys. His love of baseball started as a child watching his father play with the Waco Dons. Above all, he reveled in the company of his good friends and never knew a stranger.

He is survived by his two children, grandsons Charles Joshua Gutierrez and Jackson Andrew Riess of Waco, brother Charles Andrew Riess of Falls Church, Virginia, daughter-in-law Shauvon Elizabeth Long Riess of Waco and cousin Carolyn Maurine Riess of Austin, Texas.
