BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Anna was born in 1926 in McLennan County, Texas, the third of five children born to Ed and Mamie Yowell Moore. Anna graduated from Axtell High School in May 1943 and was the Salutatorian of her high school class. Anna married Thomas “Babe” White on May 19, 1946. They had eight children, Thomas, Melenda, Robert, David, Dallas, Grant, Mary, and Sue.

Anna worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Clark’s, and Montgomery Ward Department Stores, 12th Air Force HQ, the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Regional Office and the VA Hospital, all in Waco. Anna retired from the VA in 1999 at the age of 73. Anna loved her work at the VA, assisting veterans and the VA doctors with their various travel arrangements and reimbursements.

The White family was one of the original member families of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco, attending mass in the St. Louis school cafeteria before the present-day Church on 25th Street was built. Anna participated in many church groups, including the Altar Society.

Anna loved garage and estate sales, enjoyed playing various games, including the dice game, Bunko. She played with the same Bunko group for over 30 years. She loved to dance, especially the jitterbug, and would often attend dances at the Sul Ross Senior Center with her friends. Anna was an amazing cook, especially sweets. During the holidays each year she would make her special divinity candy and shared it with family and friends.

Anna raised her eight children with love, patience, and kindness; making each of them feel like they were her favorite. Her children and family loved her right back, as evidenced by the large family gatherings that were commonplace in the White household on any given weekend. The annual White Family Christmas meant everything to Anna, with almost all family members in attendance. Each year the family would have grown and the count eventually reached over 80 plus family members. The highlight of the Christmas party would be a rousing game of Cops and Robbers, which would last for hours.

Anna was predeceased by her parents, her husband Thomas “Babe” White, son Robert White, brothers George and Trent Moore, and sister Julia.

She is survived by son, Thomas White and wife, Connie; daughter, Melenda Williams and husband, Robert Daniel; son, David White and wife, Barbara; son, Dallas White and wife, Carol; son, Grant White and wife, Debbie; daughter, Mary Hardee and husband, James; and daughter, Sue Honea and husband, Tim. She is also survived by a brother, John Moore; two sisters-in-law, Alma and Dorothy Moore; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family would like to recognize and thank the nurses and staff of Providence Hospital third floor South for their incredible kindness and care. We also want to thank Anna’s wonderful neighbors, including special neighbors Jim and Marcia Hoge, for many years of care and friendship.

Memorials may be made to St. Louis Catholic Church, 2001 N. 25th Street, Waco, Texas 76708.
