Obituary for Alice Frances Gallagher

Alice Frances Dwyer Gallagher, 92, passed from this earth on July 6, 2022. Alice’s life was an inspiration on how to be a kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grand- mother, co-worker, friend, and volunteer.

Alice was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 20, 1930, a place she dearly loved and lived for the first 35 years of her life. After graduating from Long Island College Hospital in February 1951, Alice was gifted a trip to San Diego to visit relatives. It was on that trip she met the love of her life, a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, and a native of Queens, NY, James J. Gallagher. They married on September 13, 1952 and began a life of true commitment to each other. They had several transfers due to James’ employment with the FBI and eventually came to Hobbs, New Mexico, where they remained for 40 years until moving to Waco, TX, in 2010, to be closer to family.

Alice was a Registered Nurse and enjoyed a meaningful career. Her most fulfilling position in nursing was teaching Health Occupations at Hobbs High School for nine years before becoming the school nurse coordinator. Much to her delight, many of her former students became successful medical professionals. She retired in 1996. After retirement, Alice participated in many volunteer organizations. She was a remarkable, loving, generous, compassionate, kind and wonderful person. Her generosity knew no limits. She truly believed in the sanctity of life.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, who was a remarkable provider of love and care; three sons, James E. Gallagher and wife Ranae of Dallas, TX, Robert M. Gallagher and wife Jennifer of Little Elm, TX, David G. Gallagher and wife Maria Eugenia of Sugar Land, TX and one daughter, Nadine Welch and husband Doug of Woodway, TX.

Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Laura Allegre and husband Bruno, Kevin Gallagher, Amanda Flynn and husband Bryan, Nick Gallagher and wife Jacqueline, Rob Gallagher and wife Alexandria, Courtney Welch, Stephanie Welch, George Gallagher, Gregory Welch, and great grandchildren, Lya and Benjamin Allegre and Mallory Elyse Gallagher.
