Obituary for Alexander Melendez

Alexander Melendez was born to Robert Melendez and Claudette Towne in Dallas, Texas. He was the youngest of four children. The siblings were Charles, Henry, and Bobby Jo Melendez. When he and his siblings were younger, their mother passed away and so Robert moved them to Waco, Texas, except Charles to be closer to family. Alex, or Scoody, as he was known by many, had a lot of friends besides his family.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, Brother, and Sister besides his Grandparents. He is survived by one brother, Charles, many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was a helper to his Father during his work as a cement worker and Scoddy was willing to help anyone he could. He lived with great friends and the one to thank tremendously was Mrs. Mary Ruiz, who Scoody referred to as “Mama Ruiz.” Mrs. Ruiz always had a place for him to lay his head. He had a love for the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed his time with family and friends during the holidays. He had many health battles along the way in his life, but he was always so calm about it. He did not feel sorry for himself and went on and did the best he could with whatever he had to deal with. He was to be respected for that since that is a hard thing to do. All his life, he was single and never had any children and yet, he was happy.

His friends and brother-in-law at Mama Ruiz’s home were the best friends and caretakers ever! These sons of Mama Ruiz even helped and built him a ramp in the front and back of the house so he could get up and down with his wheelchair after he was confined to it. They all helped him get to doctor appointments and places he wanted to go. The Ruiz family are to be honored for their undying love for Scoody. The rest of the Melendez family want to thank them publicly for their love and care for him for so many years. We also want to thank his many nieces who were at the hospital for many days as he tried to hang onto life. Also, thanks to the many friends and family who came by to pray for him and who checked on him and the ones who were there burning the candle in waiting and watching out for him. Baylor Scott & White Hospital did a great job in caring for him also. Thank you all for your prayers, visits, support and love you have shown the Melendez family during this tough time.
