Obituary for Gene Donald Garrison

Gene Donald Garrison died Monday, April 8, 2019 at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital, Waco, Texas. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at College Avenue Baptist Church, 201 South Monroe in McGregor. Dr. Philip Riegel will officiate and soloist will be Donna Riegel.

Gene was born on February 20, 1944 in Crews near Sulligent, Alabama, to Rabon and Evelyn McDonald Garrison. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard of Alabama, joining February 4, 1963. He worked at John Deere Tractor Works at Moline, Illinois during the week and served in the Army National Guard during the weekends. Specialist Fourth Class Grade E-4 Gene Donald Garrison received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army National Guard on July 24, 1966.

Gene lived most of his life in Guin, Alabama. In 1978 he moved to McGregor, Texas. He worked for Coca Cola and also worked with Glenn Henson in a small shop working on cars. Gene worked at Hercules for ten years, then he worked at Ferguson, Inc. in McGregor. He later retired.

Gene married Donna Cox on October 15, 1983 and divorced in 1997. They had two children, Aaron Gene Garrison and Kelly Lynn Smith. He also had two children from a previous marriage, Michael Bozeman and Angie Bozeman Bland.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Rabon Garrison and Evelyn McDonald LeDuke and Hilmon LeDuke, his maternal grandparents, Denver and Austin McDonald and paternal grandparents, Joel Garrison and Ada Nolen.

He is survived by son, Aaron Garrison and wife, Jessica Garrison; daughter, Kelly Smith and husband, Markus Smith; step-children, Michael Bozeman and Angie Bozeman Bland and husband, Curt Bland; and his grandchildren, Kylie Koehne, Kaleb Garrison, Karah Garrison, Lacee Smith; Logan Henderson, Anna-Catherine and Carson Bland. He is also survived by his in-laws, James and Jo Ann Cox and ex-wife, Donna Fales and fiancee, Danny Gribble; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Other survivors include brothers, Jimmy and Sharon Garrison, Markey and Bev Garrison, Rickey and Martha Garrison, Randy and Brenda Garrison; sisters, Rhonda Self and Mike Gann and Carla Kinard; half brothers, Michael Garrison and Tim Garrison.

His family was his life and he cherished every moment with them. He was a faithful member of College Avenue Baptist Church. Gene loved to fish, ride his motorcycle, drive his Ford Mustang Cobra, work on cars and he loved to work in his garden. He would always drop whatever he was doing to lend a hand to help others.
