Joe Soto Marquez, Jr., 80, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Services will be 11 am Monday, September 25 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waco. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday, September 24 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., from 6 to 8 pm with the Rosary starting at 6 pm.

Joe was born November 5, 1936 to Joe S. Marquez, Sr. and Amelia Marquez in Waco. He married the love of his life of 51 years, Santos Riggins on December 27, 1957 in Waco. He served 2 years Army Active Duty and 18 years with the Army National Guard. Joe was also privileged to be hired by Dallas Cowboy Hall of Famer Bob Lilly who owned the first Coors Distributorship in Waco, from where he eventually retired after 25 years. Joe was one of a kind and an amazing person. He was a big John Wayne fan, loved his Western shows and his cold beer. He was a family man and will be truly missed by all who knew him, mostly by his family.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and grandparents.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, Joe R. Marquez, III and wife, Sylvia of Hewitt, Steve Marquez and wife, Becky of Waco, and Ernest Marquez; two brothers, Antonio Marquez and wife, Faye and Paul Marquez and wife, Faye N., all of Waco; 8 grandchildren whom he truly loved, Michelle (Marquez) Berberick, Crystal (Marquez) Fox, Joseph Marquez, Joe Marquez, IV, Steve Ryan Marquez, Mia Hardister, Courtney Olivarez and Taylor Westman; 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Steve, Joseph, and Joe Marquez, Gabriel Guardiola, Steven Fox, Kevin Hardister, Mike Berberick and Armando Virgen, IV.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Becky and Jose of Scott & White Hospice for all their loving support.
