Obituary for Wayne Luton Stinson

Wayne Luton  Stinson
Wayne Luton Stinson, Sr., 96, of Waco, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. David Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Stinson was born October 30, 1920 in Fairfield, Clay County, Nebraska to Albert Wayne and Helen Glenn James Stinson. He moved to Waco with his parents in 1938, entering into the United States Army Air Force in 1942 and serving in the States and Pacific Theater. He was a life member of VFW Post 2148. He was united in marriage to Mary Teresa Mehera on January 16, 1954 at First Presbyterian Church in Plano, Tx., where he served as Usher, Deacon and Trustee. He was a current member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Waco.

His numerous memberships included Central Texas Genealogical Society, Inc., The General Society of Mayflower Descendents, the Sons of the American Revolution, The Sons of the Republic of Texas, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. Mr. Stinson was an avid gardener and Bee Keeper. At one time he was a member of the Heart of Texas Bee Keepers and Texas Bee Keepers Association.

Mr. Stinson was retired from the St. Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) Railway as a telegrapher for 34 1/2 years. He was a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers, Transportation Commuications International Union Div. 31, and National Association of Retired & Veterans Railway Employees Inc., Unit No. 801.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers and three nieces.
He is survived by his daughter, Helen Blacklock and husband, John, of McKinney; son, Wayne Stinson, Jr. of Waco; eight grandhchildren; three great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

The family extends a special thanks to Providence Hospice Place and Right At Home for their exceptional care.
