Obituary for Ruby Alta Harris


Ruby Alta Campbell Harris, 93, of Waco, Texas, died Tuesday, February 28th at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6th at 1:00 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Krupicka officiating. Burial will be at Reed’s Lake Cemetery in Rogers, Texas. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral Home.

Mrs. Harris was born on March 3, 1923, in the Joe Lee community in rural Bell County to Jim and Lilia (Henderson) Campbell. Ruby was reared in the Joe Lee community where her father was a farmer. Ruby attended the Rogers school system, graduating in 1939. While in school she met and dated Melvin Harris. It was in August 1942, that Ruby and Melvin married, a marriage that was to last sixty-seven years.

The Harris made their home in the greater Waco area where Ruby worked in retail sales at Bill Harris General Tire.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Ruby is survived by her niece Edna Harris-Howland and husband David of China Spring, Texas, grandniece Rebekah Creamer and husband Lex of Houston, Texas, grandnephew, Will Harris and wife Jamie of Dripping Springs, Texas great nieces and nephews, Lillianna and Gabriella (Gabby) Creamer and Emily and William Harris and special friends; Butch and Joyce Henderson, Barbara Byford, Billy Joe Williams, Eddie Maniord, and Gary McGuire.
