Obituary for Rita Louise Nunez

Rita Louise Nunez, 70, of Waco, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017. Graveside services will be 11 am Friday, February 3, 2017, at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, February 2, 2017, 6 to 8 pm, with a Prayer service at 7 pm at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Rita was born November 1, 1946, in Waco, Texas to Lydia Garcia De La Rosa, and her adoptive parents Marcos and Hortencia (Garcia) Nunez, Jr. She graduated from Waco High School and also from beauty college. Rita owned and operated Rita’s Beauty Salon for many years. She was active in the Cen-Tex Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Bta. Sociedad Mutualista Mexicana de Jornaleros for many years. In the last several years, Rita chaired the committee for the annual Christmas party for children of the community, sponsored by the Mutualista society. Rita will be well remembered as a caring and loving lady, a good dancer, and a committed football fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Marie “Hope” Goodman, nephew Edward Adrian “Eddy: Goodman, Jr., brothers, Henry Torres and Paul De La Rosa.

She is survived by her great niece Kenia M. Goodman, Kenia’s parents, Mireya Zapata and husband Edgar; sisters and brother, Connie Martinez and husband Bonnie, Joe Flores and wife Christina, Elizabeth Rodriguez and husband Damian, Olga Gonzales and Mike Garcia and Susie Paleo and husband Luis; and special aunt Beatrice “Bea” Liendo, and many other relatives. Also the membership of the Mutualista who were Rita’s second family.
