Janette Irene  Winkler
Janette Irene Winkler, 84, of Waco, Texas passed away Monday, January 30, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Thursday, February 2, 2017 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. John M. Guzaldo as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at OakCrest Funeral Home beginning at 6 pm and Rosary service will be at 7 pm.

Mrs. Winkler was born September 24, 1932 in Del Rio, Texas, to Wesley Fred and Violet (Billingsley) Slaughter. She graduated from high school and then worked for many years at St. Louis School in the administrative office, a position she loved working with the children and teachers. She was a gracious lady, full of life, and always willing to help when it was needed. She was very involved in the Special Olympics, and special needs children and adults.

Mrs. Winkler was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, George Carl Winkler, daughter, Denice Marlee Gil, son, Gerald George Winkler, Jr., sister, Norma Jean Toney and infant brother, Wesley Frederick Slaughter, Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband Gerald George Winkler, children, George Freddy Winkler, Wendy Shepherd and husband John, of Waco, Texas, Patrice Maxine Huck and husband Dr. Robert Huck, of Olympia, Washington, Michelle Marie Hernandez and husband Charlie, of Atascosa, Texas, and Gerelle Maelene Kerwin and husband Timothy of Waco, Texas; 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Dixie Ellis and husband Mike, and Jill Hartman and husband Lloyd; brother, Scott Slaughter and wife Robin; and Faithful Loving Prancer and Cali.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials made be to ARC “Self Advocate “, P. O. Box 3367, Waco, Texas 76707, or Charity of Choice.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation for the excellent care given to Mrs. Winkler by the Providence Hospice staff.
