Obituary for Robert Dale "Bobby" Christian

Robert Dale “Bobby” Christian
April 30, 1956 - January 4, 2017

Robert D. Christian died Wednesday, January 4, after a six-month struggle with cancer.

He was born April 30, 1956—his mother’s birthday which daughter Sydney would later share. After that he hit the ground running, full of energy and mischief and a number of interests—bicycling, darts, birds, cooking, movies and books, but especially music. Bob played tenor saxophone in high school and at Baylor University and was a proud member of the band fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi. He worked many jobs in his lifetime and did them very well—professional photography; selling music, camera, and electronic equipment; supervising public works, pest control; medical transport; and more. The loves of his life were his two teenaged daughters, Savannah Lynne and Sydney Lace. Also surviving him are his mother, Betty Christian; siblings Anne Christian Buchanan (Stan), Suzii Christian Parsons (Joe), and David Christian (Kim); nieces and nephew Elizabeth Buchanan, Ella Parsons, and Eli Parsons; aunt and uncles Jimmy and Jane Christian and Robert Purvis; his former wife, Sherry Matteson Christian, and numerous friends, including his beloved cat, Dallas Alice Christian. All miss his quick wit and droll sense of humor, his steadfast loyalty in the face of difficult circumstances, and his great stories, usually prefaced by “I remember…” No doubt he’s now sharing stories with his late dad, C. W. Christian.

An informal memorial service is planned for 6:30 on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 7th & James Baptist Church (Harper Hall). In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Savannah Lynne Christian and Sydney Lace Christian Trust at American Bank.
