Obituary for Shirley Elizabeth McKee

Shirley Elizabeth McKee, 84, of Robinson, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 11, 2016 at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital surrounded by her loved ones after a brief but courageous battle with several health issues. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 14, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church, 1207 N. Old Robinson Road, Robinson with Dr. Cary Killough officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation and celebration of her life will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco.

Shirley was born August 25, 1932 in Waco to Ted and Hilda Nehring. She graduated from Waco High School and attended Baylor University for two years. After graduation she worked at Alamo Steel and Baylor University Nursing School. She retired from Baylor University in 1994. She was an active member of the co-ed Adult Sunday School class at Meadowbrook Baptist Church where she served as a group leader, the social coordinator, and a benevolence representative for their class. Anyone who knows Shirley knows her love of family, friends, playing the piano, and gardening. She had a special love for taking photos of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Rickey McKee; and a brother, Layton Nehring.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 64 years, Laney; son, Randy McKee and wife Tammy; daughter Robin Teichelman and husband Bill; daughter-in-law Becky McKee; grandchildren, Ramey Griffin and husband Jimmy, Derrek McKee and wife Angela, Matthew McKee and wife Jessica, Lauren Wells and husband Luke, and Addison Teichelman; great-grandchildren, Rikki Griffin, Ava, Connor, Ella, and Spencer McKee; brothers Ted Nehring Jr. and wife Penny, and Aubrey Nehring; sisters-in-law Betty Gibson and husband Harold, and Rita Nehring; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Derrek McKee, Matthew McKee, Luke Wells, Rep Pledger, Brad Nehring, A.T White, G.W Willis, and Gary Comer.

Honorary Members will be the co-ed Adult Sunday School Class of Meadowbrook Baptist Church of Robinson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical staff at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital, especially the 6th floor South and 4th floor North staff as well as the Scott and White McClinton Cancer Center.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church Building Fund.
