Obituary for Iva Mae Harris (Offield)

Iva Mae Offield Harris, 91, of China Spring, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at OakCrest Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Krupicka officiating. Burial will follow in China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday Feb. 12, at the funeral home.

Iva was born March 3, 1924 in Cameron, Texas. She grew up in Rogers, where she met the love of her life, William Vernon “Bill” Harris. They married on August 12, 1942. After their marriage Bill immediately left for the east coast and Iva followed. During WWII, Bill proudly served in the Merchant Marine and Navy. Afterwards he worked at General Tire in Waco until the early 1970s when Bill became a partner in Bunn & Harris Tire Company in downtown Waco. Later, he and Iva became the sole owners and operated the business as Bill Harris General Tire Co. with Iva as office manager until the 1990s when he retired. Iva and Bill (Vernon) were married for 69 years 3 months 3 week and 5 days.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mae Offield; husband of 69 years, William Vernon Harris; son, William Charles Harris and an infant daughter Doris Ellen.

Survivors include her grandchildren, William Harris and wife Jamie and Rebekah Creamer and husband, Sam; great-grandchildren, Emily Harris, William Andrew Harris, Lillianna Creamer, and Gabriella Creamer; daughter-in-law, Edna Howland and husband, David; and sister-in-law, Ruby Harris.
