Harry Joseph Matustik
April 19, 1923 – October 27, 2015

Harry Joseph Matustik, 92, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, October 30 at St. Louis Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. A rosary followed by visitation will be held Thursday, October 29, at 6:00 p.m., at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.

Harry was born April 19, 1923, in West, Texas, to Frank A. and Ida Barta Matustik. Prior to World War II, he worked with his father building homes. In 1942, Harry enlisted in the Navy and trained as a torpedo repairman and was stationed on the Russell Islands in the Pacific until the end of the war.

Harry returned to Texas A&M for a degree in architecture. He and Clara Jean Bettge were married in May of 1950. Harry worked at Central Texas Iron Works as a detailer and Chief Draftsman until 1987, when he started his own detailing company.

Harry was very involved in the Knights of Columbus, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and his weekly poker game. Hobbies included woodworking, reading and stamp collecting.

Harry and Clara Jean celebrated their 65th anniversary this year, and have four children, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Rev. Frank L. Matustik, Ernest E. Matustik, and Joe A. Matustik; sisters Irene Kotria and Ida Karlik.

Harry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Clara Jean Matustik; daughters Jackie Schlatter and husband Mike, Becky Brown and husband Spencer, and Kathleen Huggins and husband Gray; and son Mike Matustik and wife Debbie; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Nick Huggins, Scott Stem, Kyle Huggins, Chris Schlatter, Alex Huggins, Spencer Brown III, and Matthew Matustik.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals & Wheels, Reicher Catholic High School, or Mission Waco.
