Obituary for George Neckar

George Neckar, 88, of Waco, passed away on June 4th, 2015, at the Greenview Manor Nursing Home. At his side was his wife, Helen Neckar. Services will be held Monday, June 8th, at 10:00 a.m. at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel, 4520 Bosque Blvd, Waco. Burial will follow at the Eddy Cemetery.
George was born June 24th, 1926 in Elk, Texas to Steve and Mary Neckar. He was the 7th of 9 children. Growing up on acotton farm, he worked long, hard hours through his teen years to help support his family. After leaving the farm, he hauled hay for a living.
On June 20th, 1950, he married the love of his life, Helen Hinson, who became Helen Neckar. Together they had 3 boys, Terry, George Jr., and Tim. They moved from Texas to California in 1951 to pick cotton. In 1952 they moved to Arizona. George had a string of jobs to support his family ranging from picking cotton, hauling cotton, and hauling hay. He finally “settled down” and opened up an automobile/gas service station in Tempe, Az in 1959. He sold the station in 1977 as he and Helen got homesick for Texas. They moved to Eddy. He did backhoe work to make money. After living in Eddy for 6 years, they got the itch to move again. This time to Marble Falls to “semi-retire” and own/manage a Mobile Home Park. They sold that in 1994. Yearning to get back to their roots, they decided once again to move. This time to just a few miles outside of Waco to Perry in 1996. They had 10 acres to manage. He raised Emus, goats, and sheep. Every year he farmed a huge vegetable garden. As George and Helen got up in years, the land got too much to handle. So in 2011, they moved to Waco to make life easier.

During his spare time, George loved to tinker on machines, build furniture and do woodwork. He could fix almost any machine, and always had a solution to any mechanical problem you had. George and Helen were married 64 years.

He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father with 4 brothers and 1 sister: Joe, Steve, Robert, Johnny, and Lillian Chocek.
