Obituary for Elizabeth "Liz" Brooks

Elizabeth (Liz) Cummings Brooks, 76, of Waco, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015. Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2625 S. 18th Street, with Rev. Garwain Graves officiating. Viewing will precede the service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 23, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.

Liz, as she was fondly called, was the 3rd of six children born to Effie and Brunette (Nickles) Cummings on October 31, 1938 in Mart.

She was educated in the Waco School system, attending Moore High School. Liz enjoyed working on the Moore High planning committee making sure classmates stayed in touch and continued sharing good times and high school memories through class reunions.

After high school she entered the workforce sharing her talents as a cook and supervisor with ARA Food Service.

She also enjoyed working in the private sector helping families in the Waco area. At an early age, Elizabeth accepted Christ as her Savior and acknowledged that her strength was from the Lord.

She was the proud mother of her three devoted children, Charlotte, Ricky, and Karen. She enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, cooking, and spoiling her grandsons. "Liz" never met a stranger and would draw people to her by means of her outgoing personality.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Betty Jean Hicks and Raymond Nickles.

Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children, Charlotte Cummings, Ricky (Quandalla) Brooks, and Karen (Ronnie) Coleman, all of Waco; three siblings, Rose White, Bobby Ray Cummings, and Georgia Faye Clater, all of Waco; four grandchildren, Brent Kelly, Tamarcus Coleman, Vernard Brooks, Kelvin Gibson II, and Quincy R. Allen; and a great-grandchild, Tavion Rodriguez Coleman.

She also leaves a devoted cousin, Lillie Bell Demar, and the entire Bauer family who loved her unconditionally.

We wish to give a special thanks to her Goddaughter, Mrs. Laura Danforth; Providence Hospice; Dr. C. Garrett of MD Anderson, Houston, TX, and Dr. Okanie, Waco.
